Second attempt, I wanted to utilize some floral symbolism for this piece so I took a stab at it. Gardenias for Jikal's refinement, and he's holding a cypress branch - used as a symbol of mourning. I had originally wanted to draw a field of asphodel in the background but I just didn't have the endurance to draw all of those flowers (asphodel are very complicated as well), so I decided to use cypress instead to allude to Sanriel's death. With Sanriel himself holding a single white tulip, meant to signify a one-sided love. At first I had envisioned Sanriel being the focal but decided to bring Jikal to the forefront, and have gardenia petals in the air. This honestly did not come out as I had envisioned but I've already spent a number of hours on it. I think I was still able to convey what I wanted albeit not as articulate and romantic as I had wanted.
Still, I think this is rather successful. Sanriel is enraptured with Jikal's beauty and refinement, gazing from afar. As far as Sanriel's armor design is concerned, I would have liked it to be cleaner but I'm not used to rendering armor so it's a bit messy. I still tried to make it as intricate as possible though that made coloring a nightmare. I need to learn to color reflective surfaces - though I think I did a decent job here.
Regardless I've definitely learned some things from this so that's exciting. Again, characters belong to Travallian
